Driver Elementary offers a rich academic program based on the Standards of Learning (SOLs) and strong instruction from our teaching staff. Differentiated instruction and the use of modern technology more than prepare our students to successful academically. The Accelerated Reader program offers students an incentive to read and be recognized for meeting goals. The Accelerated Math program has provided an extra push for our students in the area of math.

Through exposure to exemplary instruction and technology, students at Driver Elementary continue to excel. Our students are taking strong first steps towards becoming successful citizens in our ever-changing world.

Shining Stars
Fourth-grader Everett Lee earned 465 Accelerated Reader points. He was the highest earning student for the 2007-08 school year.
Rachel Edmondson was the recipient of the Ruritan Award, having the highest grade point average in the fifth grade.
The students and staff raised $812 for the Suffolk Education Foundation, some of which went towards the Tornado Relief Fund through the American Red Cross.

Lawrence Albert and Ellen Schone, both fourth grade teachers, completed requirements to achieve Master Classroom status through the Accelerated Math program.

Jump Rope for Heart received a donation of $1,413 from Driver students and staff and The school raised $1,336 for the United Way.


 

2008 Test Scores
The Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) are a framework of basic skills students in each grade level should learn in English, math, science, social studies, and technology.

The SOL tests are given each spring to measure students' success in meeting these state standards. The 2008 benchmark for elementary grades is a 75% pass rate in English, 70% in math, 70% in science and 70% in history.
