2008 -2009 Winners
Fall Quarter


ELIGIBILITY
All employees of Suffolk Public Schools are eligible to receive the Star Award.

WHO MAY NOMINATE
Written nominations should be submitted to the Suffolk Public School's Human Resources Department. Nominations will be considered from all Suffolk Public School employees, parents, and community.  Nominations forms are available in the Human Resources Department, schools, departments and on the web site.

CRITERIA FOR AWARD - Nominations should consider information that reflects the criteria listed below:

1. Specific incident/accomplishment deserving recognition
2. Relationship with students
3. Relationship with other staff members
4. Relationship with parents/public
5. Community involvement/service
6. Creativity
7. Attitude/School Spirit
8. Commitment
9. Initiative
10. Activities/accomplishments that have impacted school in a positive way
    

SELECTION PROCESS
Each school or department may submit Support employee nominations and Instructional employee nominations for Star Employee of the Quarter. The nominations should include anyone based at your school or department and is not limited to the examples below. Those selections should be submitted to the Human Resources Department by the appropriate deadlines.  Out of those nominations, a Star Employee of the Quarter for Support Staff and a Star Employee of the Quarter for Instructional Staff will be selected.  Nominations not selected may be resubmitted for the next quarter. The Selection Committee will include a representative from the following: Superintendent's Parent Advisory Group, Superintendent's Teacher Advisory Group, PTA Council, Bus Driver's Association, Facilities and Planning Department, Assistant Superintendents, Suffolk Education Foundation, and Suffolk Education Association.

Nominations should follow the schedule below:

School nominations should include but are not limited to the following staff:

1. Administrators
2. Teachers
3. Teacher Assistant
4. Bus Drivers
5. Bus Aides
6. Custodians
7. Nurses
8. Secretaries
9. Bookkeepers
10. Family Life Instructors
11. Food & Nutrition Assistants
12. Food & Nutrition Managers
13. Guidance Counselors
14. Media Specialist (Librarians)
15. Interpreters
16. Psychologists
17. Visiting Teachers
18. Educational Diagnostician

Department nominations should include the following:

1. Transportation employees (excluding Bus Driver/Aides)
2. Maintenance Employees
3. Food Service Employees (excluding Food & Nutrition Managers & Assistants)
4. All School Board Office Employees
5. Print Shop Employees
6. Media/Textbook Employees
7. Technology Employees

AWARDS

All nominees will receive:

• Certificate of Recognition signed by Superintendent & School Board Chairperson.

Employees selected as Star of the Quarter (Support and Instructional) will receive:

• Certificate signed by Superintendent & School Board Chairperson
• Feature in "Stargazer"
• Feature on Website
• $50 Savings bond
